Mercury Browser is a sleek and simple design, rich featured and powerful web browser designed for iOS devices. Mercury Browser enables bookmark syncing with Firefox and Chrome and has other features to enhance your browsing experience.

Mercury Browser has many features to make your surfing easier:

• Gesture Support: With gesture support, some common functions could be activated by just swipe fingers.

• Private Browsing: Protecting you from being breached.

• Downloading & File Management: Easy to view the files and download progress with the built-in download manager.

• Bookmark Sync: Support Firefox and Chrome.

System & Device Require: iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. The Browser is optimized for iPhone5. Requires iOS 4.3 or later.

User Interface Overview

Mercury’s interface could be divided into three parts: Address bar, browsing window and toolbar, while toolbar ( iPhone/iPod Touch version only ) and address bar contain most of your browsing options.

Downloading & File Management

You can download files with Horizon and view download progress with the built-in download manager. Relevant Chapters: Downloading & File Management.

Bookmark a Page

Tap “①”, then choose “②”(Add to Bookmarks) and “Save Bookmark” interface will present.

You can modify the bookmark’s name and url in “③” and “④”.

You can choose the saving folder by tapping “⑤” and add new folder by choosing “⑥”.

At last, tap “Save” button “⑦” to add the bookmark.

Sync with Chrome

1.Log in your Google account in Chrome.

2.Open the Browser on your iOS device ➜ Tap “②” at the bottom, choose “Sync with Chrome” ➜ Input your account & password then login ➜ Sync success.

Note: You can sync again after you disconnect with Chrome.

Sync with Firefox

1.Enter “Bookmark” ➜ Tap “②” at the bottom, choose “Sync with Firefox” ➜ Note the passcode.

2.Open Firefox on computer ➜ go to start page ➜ Click “①” at the bottom ➜ Log in ➜ Pair a device ➜ Enter the passcode ➜ Sync success.

Note: After you import the bookmarks, you can find them in Other Bookmarks and edit them as you want.

You can sync again after you disconnect with Firefox.

Export & Import Bookmarks

You can export & import bookmarks by entering Settings ➜ Bookmark Options.

Export Bookmarks

• Export via Mail or Dropbox

Open Action Menu ➜ Settings ➜ Bookmark Options ➜ Export Bookmarks ➜ Find “Bookmarks.html” in File Manager ➜ Long press the file and choose “Mail” or “Send to Dropbox“.

• Export via iTunes

1. Open Action Menu ➜ Settings ➜ Bookmark Options ➜ Export Bookmarks ➜ Find “Bookmarks.html” in File Manager.

2. Open iTunes ➜ Connect your device to your computer and open it in iTunes ➜ Click “Apps” and select Browser in “File Sharing Apps” ➜ Choose ”Bookmarks.html” ➜ Click “Save to…” to save the bookmarks on your computer.

Import Bookmarks

• Import Bookmarks from Chrome via iTunes

1.Open Chrome on your computer ➜ Open the Chrome menu on the browser toolbar ➜ Bookmark Manager ➜ Choose “Organize” ➜ Export bookmarks to HTML file… ➜ Save.

2.Open iTunes ➜ Connect your device to your computer and open it in iTunes ➜ Click “Apps” and select Browser in “File Sharing Apps” ➜ Click “Add”, choose the HTML and open it.

3.Open the Browser on your iOS device ➜ Open Action Menu ➜ Settings ➜ Bookmark Options ➜ Import Bookmarks ➜ File ➜ Choose the HTML file ➜ Tap “Import” on the top right ➜ Import bookmarks successfully.

• Import Bookmarks from Firefox via iTunes

1.Open Firefox on your computer ➜ Bookmarks ➜ Show all bookmarks ➜ Import and backup your bookmarks ➜ Export Bookmarks to HTML ➜ Save.

2.Open iTunes ➜ Connect your device to your computer and open it in iTunes ➜ Click “Apps” and select Browser in “File Sharing Apps” ➜ Click “Add”, choose the HTML and open it.

3.Open the Browser on your iOS device ➜ Open Action Menu ➜ Settings ➜ Bookmark Options ➜ Import Bookmarks ➜ File ➜ Choose the HTML file ➜ Tap “Import” on the top right ➜ Import bookmarks successfully.

Bookmark Bar (iPad Version)

Turn Bookmark Bar ON/OFF

As a unique feature in iPad/iPad mini version, Bookmarks Bar contains your bookmarks and bookmark folders. You can turn it on/off in Settings ➜ Bookmark Bar.

Rearrange Bookmarks’ Order in Bookmarks Bar

Open Bookmark interface by tapping “①” beside address bar, choose “Edit” and drag the bookmark by holding “②” up or down.

How to Browse Webpage

View a Webpage

• Scroll a Webpage: Scroll up and down. • Show or Hide the Address Bar: Sometimes the address bar will auto-hide, just scroll down to make it appear and scroll up to hide it. • Zoom: Slide two fingers together to zoom in or apart to zoom out. • Switch Between Tab Pages: Tap the tab of the tab page you want to browse. • View the Previous Tab Page or Next Tab Page: Swipe from right to left or left to right. ( iPhone/iPod Touch Version Only ) • Restart the Tab Page Closed: Long press ”+” button at top right until the “Recent Closed” interface appears, then choose the tab page to reload it.

Follow a Link

• Open a Link in Current Tab Page: Tap the link in a quick and gentle manner. • Open a Link in a New Tab Page: Long press the link ➜ Open in New Tab.

Note: Subtle difference between “Open in New Tab” & ” Open in Background Tab” : Tap “Open in New Tab” will let you go to the new tab page at once while “Open in Background Tab” will let you stay in the current tab page.

• Copy a Link: Long press the link until the options appear ➜ Copy Link.

• Share in Reader Mode

Share an Image: Long press the image. Images could be shared by: Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, Evernote and Email.

Saving

• Save Webpage: Tap ”①” in the address bar, and then tap “Save Web Page”. The saved pages could be found in “Files”.

Note: Links in the page may not be available to open in offline surrounding.

• Save an Image: Long press the image until options appear:

1.Save Images to Files: the image will be saved in “Files”. Relevant Chapter: Download Images, PDF and Other Files & File Manager

2.Save Images to Album: the image will be saved in Photos.

Note: Please allow the Browser to access Photos when you first save a image. If you save image failed, please see Why it shows “Failed to save image? “

• Save User Name & Passwords: After enter user name and password, a bubble pops up to ask for instruction. Choose the option as you like.

Open with File Viewer

You can preview the link or image by File Viewer.

Browse the Web in Fullscreen

iPhone/iPod Touch Version

In Full Screen Mode, the Browser will resize the display and overlay the whole screen.

Enter Full Screen Mode: Tap ”①” at the bottom right.

Quit Full Screen Mode: Tap ”②” to quit.

Edit Toolbar of Full Screen Mode: Long press ”①” in toolbar, then the tools will jiggle ➜ Swipe to turn on or turn off a tool.

Rearrange Tools’ Order: Hold the jiggling tool and drag it to rearrange the order.

Quit Edit: Tap the dark region to quit edit.

iPad/iPad mini Version

Enter Full Screen Mode:

1.Open Action Menu and turn on ”①”.

2.Activated toolbar “②” in Action Menu and then pressing “③”.

Quit Full Screen Mode: Tap ”①” in the toolbar at the bottom to quit.

Hide/Show Toolbar: Tap “①” to hide. Tap it again to show the toolbar.

Edit Toolbar of Full Screen Mode: Long press “①” in toolbar ➜ Swipe to turn on or turn off a tool→tap “③” to quit edit.

Rearrange Tools: Long press “①” and then hold the jiggling tool and drag it to rearrange the order.

Quit Edit: Tap “③” to quit edit.

Change the Toolbar Position: Drag the toolbar by holding “①” from the bottom of the screen to the side.

Reader mode let you read articles without annoying ads, pop-ups etc.

Activate Reader

Tap “①” in address bar or “②” in fullscreen mode.

Adjust the Font Size

Tap “①”, then tap “②” to decrease font size or top “③” to increase font size.

Save an Image in Reader

The same as “Save an image” in How to Browse Webpage.

Share the Article

Tap “④” to open the share items.

The functions of the items are as following:

1.Auto download: Download files by buttons on websites.

2.Manual download: Enter Action Menu ➜ Tap Files in Functions ➜ Download ➜ Tap “④” ➜ Name the file and enter the URL ➜ Tap “⑨” on the top right to save it.

File manager helps to manage your files and you can view download progress there.

Enter File Manager

Edit Downloaded Files

Enter File ➜ Tap “①” on the top right.

Set Tab Style

Tab style can be selected in iPhone/iPod Touch version only.

Tab style include two type of styles: Classic Style & Thumbnail Style.

A thumbnail tab hides the tabs but shows “③” in toolbar instead.

Open new tabs in thumbnail style by “⑥” , close one tab by “⑦” and close all tabs by “④“ and refresh all tabs by using”⑤” , transfer the webpage to Reader mode by “⑧”.

Note: Long press a tab and drag it to rearrange the order.

Set Address Bar Style

There are two address bar styles you can choose: Classic or Omnibox Style.

Classic Style

The address bar and search bar are two separated parts.

Omnibox Style

The address bar and search bar are merged, which can help you to get some early result or suggestions recommend by your search engine.

Set AddressBar Style: Open Settings in Action Menu ➜ AddressBar Style.

Manage Your Website Passwords

Save a Password

Notification will pop up on the top at the first time you log in certain websites.

1.Select “Save”: Mercury will save your username and password. You can view or delete them in Settings ➜ Auto Fill Forms.

2.Select “Never for this Website”: Mercury won’t save your username and password for the website. You can view the ignored websites in Settings ➜ Auto Fill Forms. If you want your username and passwords can be saved, please delete it and choose “Save” when the notification appears.

3.Tap “×”: Ignore the notification once time, and then you can choose to save it or not in the next time.

Slide “④” to turn it on/off.

Ad Block:

Ad block helps you to get rid of those annoying advertisements,tracking and banners.Activate Ad Block: Turn On “Enable Ad Block”.

Instapaper:

You can save the page in Instapaper and read it later now!

Note: You need to have an Instapaper account first. Suggest you to save Instapaper as a bookmark to get your read later list quicker.

LastPass:

Currently LastPass plugin helps you to view your saved passwords. We will look into other function and optimize it as well.

Pocket:

With Pocket, you can save the page and read it later. Suggest you to save Pocket as a bookmark to get your read later list quicker.

Translate:

If you have difficult when browsing a foreign page, use this plugin to help you.

Private Browsing

Private Mode can conceal your browsing history, behaviors and cookies, keeping others from knowing what webpages you’ve visited.If you want to use plugins, please turn on them in Settings → Plugin, and then you can activate them by tapping “①” in toolbar (iPhone/ iPod Touch Version) or address bar (iPad/ iPad mini Version).

Activate/Inactivate Private Mode

iPhone/iPod Touch Version: Open Action Menu “①” ➜ Tap “②” in Functions.

iPad/iPad mini Version: Open Action Menu “①” ➜ Tap “②”.

Inactivate Private Mode

Tap “②” again.

Note: In Private Mode, the address bar turns into violet. Your browsing history and opened tabs will be all cleared after you restart Mercury or run it in background.

PIN Lock

You can enjoy password protection by setting PIN lock.

You can set Pin lock in Settings ➜ Privacy Options ➜ Passcode.

After you turn on Passcode, Pin Timeout will appear, tap and choose the time limit so that Mercury will not ask for password if you come back from background within the time.

Important: Your password is encrypted in database so that we cannot retrieve it for you. Please memorize your password. If you forget the password, the only method to solve the problem is to reinstall the browser.

Manage Your Browsing History

View Browsing History

Enter bookmark by tapping “Bookmark” button in the Address Bar (iPad/iPad mini version) or Toolbar (iPhone/iPod version) ➜ Tap “History”.

Clear Browsing History

Tap “②” on the top right.

Disable Browsing History Record

Settings ➜ Privacy Options ➜ Turn off “Remember History”.

Manage Your Cookies and Other Data

You can clear cookies and other data in Settings ➜ Privacy Options.

Clear Everything

All browsing history, cookies, data and saved forms will be cleared.

Search in Mercury

Search in Mercury is a new feature.

When entering a URL in address bar “①” , auto-suggestions will be listed out.

Tap “②” , then the URL will be auto-filled in address bar.

Manage Search Engines

You can customize the search engine as you like in Mercury.

Change Search Engine

1.Tap in address bar and the cursor blinks in the address bar.

2.Tap the icon of search engine “②”.

3.Choose the search engine you like.

Add Search Engine

1.Tap the icon of search engine “②”, and then scroll down.

2.Tap “Edit Search Engine”.

3.Choose “New Engine” ➜ Name the new engine and input the URL ➜ Tap “Done” to save it.

Edit a Search Engine

1.Tap the icon of search engine “②”, and then scroll down .

2.Tap “Edit Search Engine”.

3.Tap the search engine you want to modify ➜ Rename the search engine or change the URL ➜ Tap “Save” to save the change.

Change Search Engine Order

1.Tap the icon of search engine “②”, and then scroll down .

2.Tap “Edit Search Engine”.

3.Hold and drag a search engine by “④” to the place you like ➜ Tap “Done” to save the change.

Delete a Search Engine

1.Tap the icon of search engine “②”, and then scroll down .

2.Tap “Edit Search Engine”.

3.Tap “⑤” of the search engine to delete it ➜ Tap “Done” at the top right to save the change.

Reload Default Engines

1.Tap the icon of search engine “②”, and then scroll down .

2.Tap “Edit Search Engine”.

3.Choose “Reload Default Engines”.

Search in Page

With “Search in Page”, you can get the highlighted searching word easily.

Tap in address bar ➜ Tap the icon of search engine “①” ➜ Choose “Search in Page” ➜ Do search in the address bar.

Note: Remember switch to your common search engine after finishing search in page.

Now there are more methods to activated “Search in Page” in Mercury Browser 7.4.1 or above!

Use “Search in Page” with gesture: Go to Action Menu ➜ Settings ➜ Gestures ➜ Assign a gesture as “Search in Page”.

Use “Search in Page” with toolbar: Activate toolbar ➜ Turn on “Search in Page”➜ Tap the icon to use it.

Note: After you turn on “Search in Page” in toolbar, the search bar will lay on the bottom. You can tap “⊗” to close it.

Create New Tab Page

After creating a new tab page, several functions could be activated.

iPhone/iPod Touch Version

After opening a new tab page by “①”, then you can tap the tab to show the address bar. (Classic tab style only)

iPad/iPad mini Version

After opening a new tab page by “①”, Speed dial and News Reader could be chosen at the button.

Speed Dial

Speed Dial send the link to Mercury’s dashboard to let you have a quick start.

Add a Speed Dial

1.Tap “①”, then choose “Add to Speed Dial”.

2.Tap “①”, then enter “Title” and “URL” or select the history below, tapping “④” to save it.

Delete a Speed Dial

Method One: Delete a speed dial by long pressing the speed dial ➜ Tap “②”.

Method Two: Tap “Edit” below the address bar ➜ Tap “②”.

Change Speed Dials’ Order

Tap ”Edit” below the address bar ➜ Change order by dragging a speed dial to the place you prefer.

Arrange Tabs

Hold one tab till others became transparent, and then slide it to change the tab order.

Open, Close and Recover Tabs

Open Tabs

Open tabs by tapping “①” in the tab bar, gesture controlling ( Relevant Chapter: Setting Options ) , or ”②” in Thumbnail tab style ( iPhone/iPod Touch version only ).

Close Tabs

Tabs could be closed by tapping “①”, gesture controlling ( Relevant Chapter: Setting Options ) , or “②” in Thumbnail tab style ( iPhone/iPod Touch version only ).

Recover Tabs

Long press “①” until the “Recent Closed” interface appears, and then choose the tab page to reload it.

Manage Pop-ups

Block Pop-ups

iPhone/iPod Touch Version

Enter Action Menu ➜ Settings ➜ Settings ➜ Turn on Block Pop-ups.

Note: Block Pop-ups can stop pop-up ads but some pop-up login windows will also be blocked.

iPad/iPad mini Version

Enter Action Menu ➜ Settings ➜ Turn on Block Pop-ups.
